Produced and distributed by the Region of Durham's Planning and Economic Development Department, this bimonthly e-newsletter will provide information about opportunities, grants, and what's going on in the local agriculture community. It will also provide updates about initiatives from the Department of Planning and Economic Development, and the Durham Agricultural Advisory Committee.

Vendor opportunity at new farmers' market


Ontario Power Generation (OPG)'s Pickering location will be running a new farmers' market on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 15 to Oct. 5. For information on how to become a vendor, please contact Cheryl Johnston at 905-839-1151 ext. 7467, or email cheryl.johnston@opg.com.

SIAL tradeshow

Durham Region shines at SIAL Canada

  
SIAL Canada is an international food industry tradeshow. More than 530 agri-food exhibitors and 12,000 professionals attended SIAL Canada 2011 from May 11-13, and the Region of Durham's Department of Planning and Economic Development Department was proud to be a part of it. Algoma Orchards, The Elite Meat Company and Hela Spice Canada Inc. shared the booth and helped to promote the region as a great place to do business.

Savour the Season opportunity

  

A new celebration of the harvest is coming to Durham Region this fall. Savour the Season is a 10-day culinary event in which Durham's independent restaurants will offer fix-prix menus using local food. New Durham Farm Fresh guide hits the Durham Farm Fresh guidestreet

 

The 2011-2012 Durham Farm Fresh brochure, produced by the Durham Farm Fresh Marketing Association, is now being distributed across Durham Region. Upcoming food safety workshop

 

On June 21, you are invited to attend 3-2-1 Assessment for On-Farm Food Safety, the first of nine free OMAFRA workshops to be held in Durham Region. Participants will have access to a computer at the workshop to complete an assessment. For more information, please email marlene.werry@durham.ca.  Participants are eligible for  future on-farm assessments, training and demonstrations.
